I thought I would give you a little different format today to break from the norm and also to emphasize the point I want to get across to you.
For years you have probably heard motivational speakers, counselors, and spiritual leaders tell you that you need MORE passion in your life. Let me be the first one to raise my hand and say guilty as charged! One thing I have come to realize through my years of experience as a leader/teacher in the church I attend, in private chiropractic practice, as well as in my fitness and rehabilitation coaching is that too much of anything has the potential to be disastrous.
I see it all the time. A patient starts feeling a little better and instead of listening to me and taking their return to exercise slow they try to get a head start by doing more reps or more time at the gym only to reinjure themselves. I’ve seen others who takes some vitamins or medication and think, if one made me feel a little better maybe taking 2 or 3 will make me feel great. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!
Too much passion, if your not careful, will take you off course and away from your purpose in life. “Why?” You ask. For one reason our zeal for something can blind us to the facts or, and this is key, cause us to make decisions based on what interest us rather than what is in the best interest of our business venture or the spiritual needs of another person we are wanting to minister to.
A recent study, proved this out. Men and women were given cognitive tests to determine how there heart rate affected their judgement. Not surprisingly as the heart rate elevated past acceptable norms their ability to make sound decisions worsened. Let’s see how this can affect you and the ones you love:
In sharing the gospelyou attack the beliefs or ideals of another religion, and become so aggressive that you forget the person you are sharing with is a real person with a history behind their beliefs (i.e family tradition, financial ties, etc.) that may not enable them to fully process just waht it is God has for them in a 30 minute discussion. Do you see how passion can easily get in the way of expressing the love and goodness of God that leads men/women to repentance?
In a marriage, you staunchly protect your ego and right to be right, without stepping back to see if your spouses opinion or though process might actually be RIGHT. With each comment the passion, tension, and heart rate escalate and the ability to stop the damage decreases.
Business people need to beware of passion as well. Watch out that you don’t become so engaged in a specific method of doing things that you forget your passion is meant to help your customers. I see this in my field all the time from other chiropractors who will only use one specific technique or are so attached to their philosophy of practice that they forget that patients are the reason they are in practice to begin with.
When it comes to passion let this be your guiding principle: Be passionate about PEOPLE and about making a difference in their lives!

Inspiration: “Keep steadily before you the fact that all true success depends at last upon yourself.” Theodore T Hunger
Be: (positive Confession) I am M.E.E.* Oriented.
Do: (first steps) Today, put M.E.E. over me. Motivate yourself; you won’t always have the benefit of a coach or spiritual leader to get you going. Learn how to pray for yourself and say the words that bring encouragement to your own ear and you’ll be on your way to living a maturely successful life. Evaluate your daily actions in relationship to your purpose. There are things you do every day that affect the bottom line, and others that just go into a bottomless pit of busy-ness. Decide which is which and delegate the busy-work. Eliminate those things that rob you of your time and energy; trying to be able to do everything will keep you from achieving greatness at anything.
Have: (making dreams reality) As I learn how to think M.E.E. first I’ll find that the success I’ve been working toward is no longer put on the back burner.

Inspiration: “If you are not at the table you are on the menu.” Author Unknown
Be: (positive Confession) I am at the Table.
Do: (first steps) Today, pull up a chair to the buffet. Through the course of recent events you may have been feeling as if you are the one who has been sliced and diced and set out for the consumption of your enemies. Look again and you’ll see that the circumstances you thought were working against you are actually supplying you with the advantage necessary to bring about your greatest success. Instead of whining about how unfair things are take notice of the way God has strategically removed your competition without you having to raise a finger. It will all go to naught, however, unless you capitalize on the void left by the absence of those market place pretenders. Look for the niche that needs to be filled and supply it more efficiently, with greater effectiveness, and a higher level of personal service then get ready for consumers to come calling and tell their friends.
Have: (making dreams reality) As I choose to see opportunities rather than obstacles in the marketplace correction I’ll find a smorgasbord has been set out for me to fully enjoy.

The Thought For The Day: So Believable

Inspiration: “Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.” David J Schwartz author of The Magic of Thinking Big
Be: (positive confession) I am Believable.
Do: (First Steps) Today, link your conscious mind and your subconscious mind in your pursuit of success. This means it is not enough to make hollow affirmations; that is positive confessions that you have no conviction or firm belief can come to pass. You can declare all day long that you are a successsful business person or that you have a million dollars in the bank, and be just as unsuccessful or just as broke a year from now, even ten years from now if you don’t subconsciously believe it to be true. In other words your subconscious mind will simply reject the reality you are consciously attempting to create if whatever you are seeing is viewed as a blatant fabrication. For an affirmation to have power it must be congruent with your existing beliefs. So how do you address the issue of unbelief or the lack of faith in yourself to succeed you may have been conditioned to have? First identify both positive and negative beliefs you have about yourself or life in general. Second, realize the importance of how you feel when you make a declaration. You may have seen athletes pump their fist or band their chest in response to a good play; but you may not realize that the truly great athletes use this technique prior to doing something spectacular as well, especially when they are in the midst of a slump or not at the top of their game. Third, Rephrase the Statement so that you say what feels true to you. If your confession doesn’t seem true to you, overcome subconscious sabotage by preceding it with one of the following phrases: “I choose to believe…”, “I am willing to believe…”, “I want (fill in the blank) and I can do (fill in the blank)…” or turn an exclamation into a question. Studies show that in response to questions our brains go into overdrive looking for solutions; while you may not covertly believe it when you profess “I am the number one person in my profession”, human nature will cause you to search out the answer when you ask “Why am I so successful?”. Make this technique even more powerful by asking yourself a why question, a what question, and a how question. Which leads me to the most important point of all relating to making any type of affirmatio: to really improve your level of self believability you MUST take immediate action based on your confession. Despite what some would have you believe success won’t just fall out of thin air and neither will pennies from heaven. Don’t fall into the trap of only thinking about or talking about how great things will be in the future without acting upon it otherwise you’ll lose credibility with yourself and others.
Have: (Making Dreams Reality) As I learn how to tap into my God-given belief system I’ll find that when I make a statement that relates to my present and future success that truer words were never spoken!

Inspiration: “If you don’t have sense you won’t make dollars.” Dr A.J. Rubano
Be: (positive confession) I am Sensible.
Do: (First Steps) Today, put your ideas to the sensibility test. Many business owners and salesmen; as well as spouses and parents sabotage their chance at success by failing to see things through the eyes of the end user. They fall in love with a product offering or proposition based on a false assumption that it will profit them personally without considering whether or not others stand to benefit equally. Before you fall head over heels for fool’s gold ask yourself the following questions of your product, service, or proposal: 1) If I didn’t stand to make something from it (i.e a commision, over-ride, romantic favor) would I purchase or choose it for myself? 2) Honestly assess how the solution you propose stacks up against other available options considering cost, convenience, and quality. 3) Will the enjoyment and quality of life improvement that comes from my proffer outweigh the regret I would experience if I decided to do without? If what you suggest can pass all three than you probably have a winner.
Have: (Making Dreams Reality) As I improve my skills at accurately appraising the prudence of my offerings from the eyes of the consumer I’ll be more likely to produce something that is of value to all parties involved, demonstrating a wealth of sense and dollars!

Inspiration: “It takes a person who is wide awake to make his dream come true.” Roger Babson
Be: (positive confession) I am Awake at the Wheel.
Do: (First Steps) Today, watch out for highway hypnosis. Sometimes on the road to our dreams our creative instincts can be lulled to sleep, just like we do while watching the lines on a highway wizz by as we travel an extended distance to our desitination. Here are 5 things you can do to rescuscitate the creativity necessary to bring your dreams into the land of the wide awake. 1. Break it! Taking a break from the action and coming back to it later may bring new perspective. 2. Spork it! Why do things always have to be either or, when sometimes the answer lies in “and”. Just like the combination spoon-fork (spork) your vision may take off by combining something unexpected to the mix. 3. Rip it off! Find out what other successful people in your field are doing and learn from their mistakes. This may be done by observation or in a best case scenario through a mentoring process, but most importantly keep it legal (don’t steal their work). 4. Be Ready to Write It Down! Have you ever noticed that your most inspirational ideas come at the most inopportune times (like when you are sleeping, showering, or using the bathroom). Keep a journal near you at all times and write down these flashes of brillance immediately, otherwise they might lose their listre with the passage of just a few minutes. 5. Climb it! Never be satisfied with just one idea or with improving in just one area of your life. When all areas are growing synergestically the end result is exponential enlargement. Allow yourself the freedom to build, and climb, the bigger mountain.
Have: (Making Dreams Reality) As my creative juices start flowing the long lonely road will start looking more like easy street.

The Thought For The Day: Well-Shaken

Inspiration: “Defeat may serve as well as victory to shake the soul and let the glory out.” Edwin Markham
Be: (positive confession) I am Well-Shaken.
Do: (First Steps) Today, don’t allow yourself to be caught off-guard by a shaking. Periods of unrest and even chaos are bound to happen in the lives of those courageous enough to step out in pursuit of their dreams. The key is to not let those trials shake you off your foundations, but rather to stir up your resolve to see your plans through to completion. Here’s how: First, prepare mentally by reminding yourself that a thorough “shaking” is a prerequisite for multi-ingredient items (and multi-faceted visions) prior to serving so as to bring the best features to the surface (or as Markham stated “letting the glory out.”). Next, make provision for when things do go haywire; maintaining an emergency financial fund, having a temp service on retainer for your business, and jumper cables in your car can help minimize the effects of a routine-busting event. Third, learn to think and act on the fly and make sure to record the things that worked well when you were under pressure as well as those that didn’t, that way you are even more prepared the next time there’s a shaking going on.
Have: (Making Dreams Reality) As I properly prepare for, learn from, and handle life’s disruptions I’ll be able to say with confidence “Shake (me) Well before Serving”!
Be, Do, and Have the best day of your life! God Bless You!
The Thought For The Day: Progressing
Tuesday, August 24, 2010 Inspiration: “The gap between ideals and actualities, between dreams and achievements, the gap that can spur strong men to increased exertions, but can break the spirit of others / this gap is the most conspicuous, continuous land mark in American history. Inspiration: “The gap between ideals and actualities, between dreams and achievements, the gap that can spur strong men to increased exertions, but can break the spirit of others / this gap is the most conspicuous, continuous land mark in American history. It is conspicuous and continuous not because Americans achieve little, but because they dream grandly. The gap is a standing reproach to Americans; but it marks them off as a special and singularly admirable community among the world’s peoples.” George Will
Be: (positive confession) I am Progressing.
Do: (First Steps) Today, embrace your position “in the gap” without residing in it. One of the things that tends to derail people on their quest to reach a goal is that their eyes get focused on the size of the gulf between where they are and the ideal. They want or expect perfect and consequently miss out on the progress they have already made. This “gap”, or the space between where you are now and where you want to be, can literally sap the life out of your dreams if you allow yourself to live in it. At the same time you must realize that gap will always exist for the person who desires excellence. So how do you balance the two? You learn to press toward your goals while evaluating your progress in relationship to where you began. One way to do this is to complete a “Progress Recognition” form (I’ll email it to you when you post a comment to this post) and review the positive changes and enhancements you’ve already made to your life.
Have: (Making Dreams Reality) As I escape life in the gap I’ll experience an empowering and fulfillment that will result in greater clarity of my vision and a higher level of energy to move toward my dreams.

Be: (positive confession) I am Radioactive.
Do: (First Steps) Today, be aware of the fact that everything you think, say, and do has the potential to initiate a chain reaction that can lead to explosive results, for either good or bad. Now go out and do, say, and think the things that will start the dominoes falling in the direction you desire them to.

Inspiration: “The early bird may get the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.” Author Unknown
Be: (positive confession) I am the Second Mouse.
Do: (First Steps) Today, stop beating yourself up for missed opportunities and mistakes. Certainly it is wonderful to hit your goals and ideals, but it is even more damaging to allow failure to do so to cause you to miss out on other opportunities. In fact, there are many cases where not being the first one on the scene is actually advantageous.
Have: (Making Dreams Reality) As I determine to move forward following disapointment I’ll create new opprotunities for victory. Much like the mouse who comes along after his buddy has been ensnared, my continued pursuit of the prize can result in the desired outcome anyway.
