Daily Scripture: Dream Sharing
Be blessed as you mediate on and apply the wisdom of God’s word found in Genesis 37 (KJV)
Genesis 37
5And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
6And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
7For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.
8And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
Let Joseph’s experience with his brothers serve as a lesson to you. In this exchange we learn two very valuable lessons. First, be careful with whom you choose to share your dreams and visions of the future with. This may come as a surprise to you but not everyone you meet (or who even clains the title of “christian”) will rejoice or be encouraging when you tell them what God has shared with you or has planned for you to do in the kingdom. There will be those who are not only discouraging but downright hurtful; DO NOT LET THAT DETER YOU. If God has given you a word or mandate you do not need anyone else to validate it.
Second when speaking to others remember that the listening ears of people are always tuned in to station WII-FM. They want to know What’s In It For Me. I believe it was quite possible that in Joseph’s excitement about his dream he may have been somewhat braggadoscious and overlooked the body language that was demonstrating his brother’s internal hurt. He missed out on a tremendous opportunity to encourage them in the Lord. Bottom Line: Learn to develop a listening ear that allows you to identify with your audience and reach them at their point of need.
God Bless You,
Dr A.J.
